Chevy has just given us our first look at the all-new Silverado 4500HD and 5500HD, and it admittedly makes us a bit intimidated. The truck looks fierce and formidable, ready to take on the toughest of jobs with ease. The truck will be revealed in full at this year’s The Work Truck Show® in Indianapolis, which is North America’s largest work truck event. Luckily, the show is just around the corner: it will take place March 6-9.

At Red Wing Chevrolet, we’re eagerly anticipating the release of the Silverado 4500HD and 5500HD. Although full technical specifications have yet to be released for the new trucks, we have a general idea of what will be offered.

They will be available in regular and crew cab with a range of wheelbases. The Silverado’s brilliant pairing of Duramax diesel engines and Allison transmissions will continue, offering the ideal balance of power, performance, and efficiency. The Silverado 4500HD and 5500HD will also come equipped with various state-of-the-art driver connectivity and driver-assist safety technologies, offering smart entertainment, connectivity, and safety to drivers and passengers alike. As the U.S. vice president of General Motors, Ed Peper, stated, “The Silverado 4500HD/5500HD trucks are the flagship of our full-line commercial truck portfolio and we’ve designed them to be among the best in the industry in maneuverability, serviceability, visibility, quietness and comfort, diesel fuel economy and more.”

Buick to Add New Colors for the 2018 Cascada

2018 Buick Cascada | Red Wing Chevrolet Buick Cadillac | Red Wing, MN

Buick is on the cutting-edge of luxury and technology, but it also leads the charge in the industry toward innovative design. To keep ahead of the competition, Buick plans to add three new colors for the 2018 Cascada this year, influenced by customer preferences in other industries, such as fashion and interior design.

What are these three new color options for the Buick Cascada? Carrageen Metallic, Dark Moon Blue Metallic, and Rioja Red Metallic, each more enticing than the last in the eyes of fashion designers and interior decorators.

In addition to the new colors for the 2018 Cascada, Buick will also be adding two new convertible tops for 2018 (Sweet Mocha and Malbec) and two additional exterior colors for the Sport Touring Dark Effects Package.

“Color is back,” explained Catherine Black, lead designer of Buick’s Color and Trim Studio. “While 80 percent of the exterior colors purchased globally are neutrals — black, silver, or grey — many customers are starting to move away from these neutral tones and have an appetite for entirely different colors like dark navy and maroon.”

Existing color options for the Buick Cascada include Sport Red, Flip Chip Silver Metallic, Summit White, Ebony Twilight Metallic, and Smoked Pearl Metallic.

Take a Drive Down Chevy Trucks Torque Memory Lane

Chevy Trucks Torque | Red Wing Chevrolet | Red Wing, MN

In honor of a century of Chevrolet pickup trucks, Red Wing Chevy and the Chevrolet brand have decided to reflect on a little bit of Chevy trucks torque history.

Chevy’s very first truck—the 1918 One-Ton model—was powered by a 2.8-liter four-cylinder engine that produced just 45 lb-ft of torque. The closest engine in similarity that Chevy offers today is the 2.5-liter four-cylinder that powers the Colorado, except the Colorado’s engine creates 191 lb-ft of torque. On the other end of the spectrum, Chevy also currently offers the Silverado 3500HD with the Duramax 6.6-liter turbo-diesel V8, which is good for 910 lb-ft.

So how did Chevy grow from 45 lb-ft to 910? Here are a few of the brand’s torque highlights:

  • 1929: Chevrolet introduced the first “stovebolt” six engine, good for 120 lb-ft of torque.
  • 1955: Another first for Chevy occurred in the 50s, when Chevy unveiled its first small block V8 engine, which nearly doubled the torque output of the stovebolt six engine, making a whopping 238 lb-ft of torque.
  • 1987: It wasn’t until the 80s that Chevy crested the 300 lb-ft mark for torque.
  • 2001: Chevy dubs 2001 as the beginning of the “modern diesel era,” when its Duramax engine offered up 520 lb-ft of torque. Since then, the output has just kept on growing.

Check out the torque offered in Chevy’s current pickups at Red Wing Chevrolet.

Winter Car Service Tips

Winter Car Service Tips
Winter Car Service Tips

Now that winter is almost here, it’s time to perform some seasonal care on your vehicle. These car service tips from Red Wing Chevrolet will help you get your vehicle set for safe and efficient driving throughout the cold season.

Check and Charge Your Battery

Cold weather is tough on car batteries. An aged battery may work fine in the fall, only to fail you in the winter. Get your battery checked now to avoid a jump later. Be sure to keep jumper cables and reflective safety cones in your vehicle just in case you need them.

Tire Pressure

Your tires are also more sensitive in the winter time. Cold temperatures can cause major fluctuation in tire pressure. But for the safest and most efficient driving, you want your tires to be in good condition. Check your tire pressure regularly throughout the winter and watch for any damage or worn tread.

Windshield Wiper Fluid

With snow, ice, and road salt in the mix, you’ll be fighting a dirty windshield all season. Make sure that your windshield wiper fluid is topped off and that your wiper blades are in good condition so that you’ll have clear visibility this winter.
