If you’re a resident of Minnesota like Red Wing Chevrolet Buick happens to be, you’re in luck—this state is filled with plenty of must-see destinations. Pack your bags and fit one of these Minnesota road trips into your schedule while the summer is still here.
This city is located just on the border of Wisconsin, and gets our vote because of its gorgeous, rocky, natural views, and its list of activities. Take a long hike, go on a ferry ride, canoe along the St. Croix, or set up a campsite for a primitive weekend under the stars.
This destination gives you the chance to enjoy the classic Minnesota prairies. But scattered throughout the landscape are islands of rocks, on which Native Americans carved petroglyphs thousands of years ago. You’ll learn plenty from an informative guide, and will leave with a new understanding and appreciation of the area’s history.
This park in Vining, Minnesota is filled with large, quirky sculptures. Everything from the elephant to the giant cup of levitating coffee pouring onto the ground is totally picture-worthy. And, if you visit on August 19, 2017, you’ll coincide with the town’s annual Watermelon Day. Who would want to miss that?!
Practicing safe driving habits is something you should do even if it isn’t your New Year’s resolution. Fortunately, those struggling to come up with an achievable resolution could find their best choice is to practice (or kick) a new safe driving habit. Here are a few safe driving New Year’s resolutions suggested by us here at Red Wing Chevrolet. We hope you have a fantastic 2017!
Smartphones – Driving while talking or texting is hazardous, even if the road is empty. It only takes a second for road conditions to change, a pedestrian to walk in front of your car, or worse. Put down the phone or, alternatively, use your vehicle’s Bluetooth connectivity so you can keep your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.
Slow Down – Speeding results in a reduced reaction time that could be the difference between life-and-death accidents. Slowing down and driving the speed limit allows drivers more time to react, save on gas by getting better fuel economy, and relax while on the road. Plus, you won’t run the risk of any costly tickets.
Efficiency – Being more efficient on the road can save you a whole bundle of money over the course of 2017. Avoid idling, combine trips, make sure your tires are properly inflated, and make sure you slow down!
Most drivers, even beginners, have heard things here and there about tire maintenance—the penny trick to check the tread, for instance. But why? What happens if the tread is too worn?
The importance of tire maintenance isn’t discussed as often as how to do it. Tires are your only point of contact with the road, so keeping them in good health is necessary for your own safety. If the tread is worn down, for example, you lose traction. This is why it’s often recommended to check your tire tread before winter and spring, the wettest seasons of the year.
Keeping tires properly inflated is another important part of tire maintenance. If tire pressure is too low, which often happens in colder months, you lose traction. If tires are over-inflated, more common in summer, you’ll experience a harsher ride, less contact with the road, and even bad damages when going over pot holes.
Check your tires for cracks, leaks, and bulging, as these are all signs of bad tires and may soon lead to a blowout, which could damage your rim. Bad tires could lead to a lot of problems, so inspect them regularly!
It’s May, which means it’s time to start prepping your car for the rising temperatures. Summer’s heat and dry weather can be killer on your engine, so follow these quick tips on how to get your car ready for summer.
It’s always important to have a season-appropriate emergency kit in your car. Get a first aid kit, but also keep water, snacks that will keep for a while like granola bars, a battery-powered fan, and a throwaway cell phone in case yours dies.
Maintenance-wise, check on your air conditioner to make sure it’s still working—a bad air conditioner can indicate a larger problem, so if it’s not, see a technician—and check your coolant. Now is a great time to do a coolant flush, since you’ll want to go into the hot season with clean coolant that will efficiently keep your engine from overheating. Check your other fluids as well, including engine oil, transmission fluid, and brake fluid.
Replace your windshield wiper blades and get a car wash and wax. The wax will help protect your paint job from rain and dust.
With these tips, your summer is sure to be full of fun drives and great adventures.

Tires are the only part of your car that comes in contact with the road, making it especially important to be sure they are in proper shape. That means you should regularly check and maintain them, and you should also know when to replace tires as well.
According to Michelin, you should always consider age. Tires that are older than five years will begin to break down, making them especially vulnerable to blow-outs. Consider buying new tires if yours have sat around for some time. After ten years, you could be risking your safety by driving.
Next, check your tires for uneven wear, bulges, or cracking. Uneven wear can actually be a sign that there is a problem with you vehicle’s alignment; nonetheless, the tires can’t provide proper stopping power in this condition. Cracking and bulges indicate the tire could burst at any moment, making it vital to get new tires.
Finally, check the tread depth. This is the most common way to determine you need new tires. Your tread should have at least 2/32” of tread—any less can be illegal in certain areas. If you don’t have a tread-depth indicator, use a penny. Flip it upside down in the tread—if anything above President Lincoln’s head is visible, you need new tires.

Looking for an appealing, enjoyable and efficient vehicle? We at Red Wing Chevrolet Buick Cadillac would encourage you to consider the second-generation Chevrolet Volt.
This plug-in hybrid is getting a lot of well-deserved attention, but is it appealing to customers who may be weary of hybrid technology?
General Motors is using a consumer-friendly approach to advertising the 2017 Chevy Volt. Instead of focusing solely on the advanced technology, they are instead directing attention to the benefits of the vehicle for the driver.
Chevy is striving to be “straightforward about the car’s capabilities and the benefits of having an a gasoline engine paired with the electric motor, which helps eliminate the range anxiety that comes with ownership of all-electric cars.”
In addition to the straight-forward advertising, Chevy has considered asking owners of the previous Volt to talk about the vehicle. This strategy would certainly add appeal to potential new Volt owners.
If you are interested in learning more about the Chevy Volt, stop in to Red Wing Chevrolet Buick Cadillac. We will be glad to tell you all about this vehicle and its great benefits of ownership.
We at Red Wing Chevrolet Buick Cadillac know the importance of saving money – especially when it comes to driving. Getting the most miles from every tank of gas is a great way to save money. Some people may think that the only way to save money on gas is to drive a hybrid or all-electric vehicle. That is not true. There are many ways to save money at the pump. Here are some of our recommendations for being fuel efficient.
Drive more leisurely. Slow down and you will save money! Driving fast, braking quickly, and accelerating rapidly will cost you in gas. Try to avoid speeding and use your cruise control.
Correctly inflate and balance tires. Fuel is wasted when tires are underinflated. Plus, your tires will wear out more quickly! Check them weekly, inflating them when needed to increase your gas mileage.
Check your car’s alignment. If your car drives straight, without resistance, your gas will go further.
Change your spark plugs and air filters early. Keep ahead of the maintenance recommended for your car. The recommended mileage usually is when they are completely worn out. Changing these parts early will help keep your car at optimal performance equaling optimal gas mileage.
These are just a few ways to optimize your tank of gas. Visit us at Red Wing Chevrolet Buick Cadillac to learn more fuel efficient tips or look at hybrid technology.
