The 2018 Regal design is getting some drastic changes for the upcoming year, offering new hatchback and station wagon options. The Sportback and TourX options are two new variants offered by Buick to add styling and versatility to the existing Regal, bringing European-inspired designs to the US to make driving more enjoyable than ever before.
According to AutoWeek, the new Buick Regal comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine under the hood, a power plant that comes on the two new models as well. This allows for up to 250 horsepower, and, when equipped with all-wheel drive, you can get up to 295 lb-ft of torque. The new models also come with either an eight- and nine-speed automatic transmission to improve acceleration.
“When the 2018 Buick Regal goes on sale later this year, customers will have two new variants to choose from — the Sportback and TourX. The Sportback is a hatchback in sedan’s clothing, while the TourX is an honest-to-God wagon that rides slightly higher than the Sportback with some cladding for the added appearance of ruggedness,” said the editors at AutoWeek.
The latest TourX model comes with up to 73.5 cu ft of cargo space to improve versatility, while the Sportback gets some added space thanks to movable rear seats. The new Regal also comes with a lighter design thanks to some intelligent weight cuts, especially on the Sportback which lost over 200 pounds in excess weight. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is a federal agency dedicated to ranking cars based on their safety. Buick has achieved a top five-star safety rating across the lineup for the past two years. The 2017 Buick Envision crossover continues that trend with a top safety score for the model year.
The new Buick Envision earned a top five-star safety rating thanks to its durable design and incredible number of safety technologies. Drivers interested in the Envision will be met with a long list of standard and available features that add up to five cameras, 13 sensors, and peace of mind behind the wheel
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety backs the NHTSA’s rating with one of its own. The crossover had earned the top rating for 2016 and now that’s extended into the current year. The institute named the new Buick Envision a Top Safety Pick+ when equipped with HID headlights and available front crash prevention technologies.
The IIHS requires vehicles to earn Good ratings in all crash tests as well as an Advanced or Superior rating in the front crash prevention test. Vehicles must also earn a Good or Acceptable headlight rating.

It’s no secret General Motors has been looking to rebrand the ol’ Buick lineup in every way possible. From advertisements to reshaping, designing, and engineering most of the lineup, the entry level luxury brand is slowly shedding its “old driver” vibe. That shedding was pushed further with Buick’s Super Bowl ad.
The ad features Odell Beckham Jr. and Emily Ratajkowski at a wedding. The bride and groom driver off in a two-door convertible, recognizable only as the Buick Cascada. Like most Super Bowl ads, there was a bit of humor leading up to the message.
Ratajkowski dives to catch the bouquet in a similar fashion to Odell Beckham Jr.’s touchdown catch in 2014. Wedding attendees comment on how she ‘Odelled it.”
The Buick Cascada is a sleek model with flowing curves from front to back, a design not typically associated with Buick until recently. It’s the first convertible the entry-level luxury automaker has created for the market in 25 years in a push to appeal to a younger audience.
“Our target audience is broad with an opportunity like this, but really it’s focused toward everyone who has either the wrong perception of Buick or no perception at all,” said Molly Peck, Buick’s director of marketing.
We here at Red Wing Chevrolet Buick Cadillac are waiting impatiently to see what the new commercial does to sales!
