Red Wing’s Expert Service Department

At Red Wing Chevrolet Buick, our Service Department has changed in the recent past and we couldn’t be happier how it’s turned out. This is in large part due to the expert work of our Service Manager, Shayne Swanson.

Shayne may only have a bit of time notched under his belt here at Red Wing, but he’s racked up thirty seven years of experience in the auto industry to more than make up for that. His qualifications show even more brightly when you ask him any topic surrounding our area, he’s what we’d like to call a local expert!

In terms of how we handle Service, customers will enter through our warm, inviting doors and see either Mike or Eric, our Service Writers. They consult with the customer and ensure that no surprises amount when repairs, check-ups or any level of service is done.

Shayne wanted to let you wonderful customers know that our Service Department is waiting. Any scrape, bump, replacement or oil change you may need can be done by us in an efficient and low-cost manner. Our team of Certified Technicians will make sure of that.

To put what makes us so special: “customer service, certified technicians, good workmanship and most importantly, communication, make us one of the best service departments in southern Minnesota.”

5 Reasons why Minnesota Rocks

Most people have at least a little bit of state pride. It feels good to like where you live. Here at Red Wing Chevrolet, we are proud to call Minnesota home. Here are five reasons why we think Minnesota rocks.

  1. The people. Minnesotans are some of the friendliest people in the country. No matter if you’ve lived here your whole life or are just visiting for the weekend, you will be warmly welcomed wherever you go.
  2. The culture. We won’t deny that some of our Minnesota ways might seem a bit strange to outsiders, but it is an important part of what makes us Minnesotans. Our traditions are a unique blend of a variety of cultures, including Scandinavian, Irish, German, Native American, Polish, and more.
  3. The scenery. Just look around. Everywhere you go in Minnesota is picturesque. Even our cities are clean and attractive.
  4. The weather. While it might get pretty cold in the winter, every season in Minnesota is spectacularly beautiful. Not to mention, you’ll get a full dose of all four seasons.
  5. The food. We love our beer and deep fried food. Just visit the Minnesota State Fair for a sampling of some curious, yet delicious, combinations.

What is your favorite thing about living in Minnesota?

Things to Do in Rochester, Minnesota

Summer is a busy time for Rochester because it’s such an outdoors-oriented place. From visiting nature centers to exploring caves, you’ll never run out of things to do. Go biking in one of Rochester’s over a hundred city parks or go fruit picking at Firefly Berries.

Parents with young children will enjoy a visit to Monkey Junction or Pipsqueaks, two local indoor play areas for children six and under, and the Minnesota Children’s Museum of Rochester.

These are all pretty active, but if you’d rather do something more relaxing, visit the Rochester Art Center that features a series of exhibitions with art from local and international artists, or head to the History Center of Olmsted County for a little local history. Top 5 Reasons You Should Buy a Chevrolet

There are so many brands in the auto industry these days, it can be difficult to decide which brand you should buy from. Should you buy a foreign car? Which brand has the best value? What kind of technology do you want in a new car? For some of the best vehicles in the industry, you should look no further than Chevrolet. Read on to discover the top five reasons why you should own a Chevy.

5: Built-In Wi-Fi

Chevrolet was a pioneer when it came to an onboard wireless connection in its vehicle. These days, all vehicles in the Chevy lineup come standard with a 4G LTE wireless hotspot, so you and your passengers can stay connected to Wi-Fi on the go. This is a bonus if you’re a parent with a teen who’s always using up all the data in your family’s phone plan.

4: Plenty of Choices

As one of the most diverse brands on the market, Chevy definitely has something for everyone. Whether you need a pickup truck, a capable SUV, a family-friendly sedan, or even something a bit more environmentally-conscious, Chevrolet has a vehicle for you.

3: Support a Domestic Brand

Chevrolet was founded in Detroit in 1911, which means that every time you buy Chevrolet, you’re supporting a 105-year-old brand that has its roots in America’s prosperous industrial era, as well as one of the most successful brands of the 60s and 70s’ muscle car era. Many Chevy vehicles are hailed as icons of American pride.

2: High Resale Value

It’s inevitable—all brand-new cars begin depreciating the second you drive them off the lot. However, Chevrolet vehicles hold their resale value longer than other brands’ products. As a result, Chevrolets aren’t just affordable. They’re a great investment, too.

1: Award-Winning Quality

This year, both the Camaro and Colorado took home Motor Trend’s titles of Car and Truck of the Year. The Malibu was honored with the Most Dependable Midsize Car award from J.D. Power two years in a row. The Volt was named the 2016 Green Car of the Year. That’s only a snippet of all the honors Chevrolet’s lineup has won, with more to come.

So why should you buy a Chevrolet? Well, if the reasons above haven’t convinced you, you should let us persuade you in person. Come up to Red Wing Chevrolet and we’ll take you for a test drive in one of our many quality vehicles.

Steps to Buying a Pickup Truck

The pickup truck segment is one of the most varied and diverse segments on the market, with several different choices in different sizes to suit each driver’s individual needs. Of course, this has resulted in a market that can be confusing for newbies when they see all the different options available. What goes into buying a pickup truck, and how can you narrow down the steps to find your perfect choice?

Step 1: Decide on a budget.

This seems like common sense, but there are a lot of trucks on the market that are equipped with high-end comforts that you may not need—or, if you have more money to burn, you might be willing to go for those upscale luxuries. An affordable truck is not always a good investment, though, so keep an eye out for resale value information.

Step 2: What are you using the truck for?

If you’re the type of person who wants to take your pickup truck off-roading, you’re not going to want the same kind of truck as the guy who runs his own landscaping business and needs commercial-grade capability. This will help you decide between a light-duty, heavy-duty, or midsize truck, many of which are separated into models with different-size cabs and truck beds.

Step 3: Test-drive.

Dealerships offer test-drives for a reason. If you’re still having trouble deciding between several brands, models, and trim levels, schedule test-drives with a few different places to get a feel for your potential new truck in person. There’s nothing quite like bonding with a truck in the flesh.

Step 4: Make your choice!

If you want a more common configuration, it may be possible just to drive off the dealer lot with your new pickup if they have your desired model in stock. If not, you can always custom order a truck that fits your specific tastes.

Buying a pickup truck can be confusing. As a starting point, we at Red Wing Chevrolet recommend the Silverado family of trucks. Silverados range from the light-duty Silverado 1500 to the heavy-duty Silverado 3500 HD, and come in a variety of cab and bed sizes. You can even opt for luxurious trim levels such as the High Country, or fun packages like the Z71 Off-Road package. All of this is guaranteed to be long-lasting quality with great resale value.

When to Replace Tires: Proper Car Maintenance

Tires are the only part of your car that comes in contact with the road, making it especially important to be sure they are in proper shape. That means you should regularly check and maintain them, and you should also know when to replace tires as well.

According to Michelin, you should always consider age. Tires that are older than five years will begin to break down, making them especially vulnerable to blow-outs. Consider buying new tires if yours have sat around for some time. After ten years, you could be risking your safety by driving.

Next, check your tires for uneven wear, bulges, or cracking. Uneven wear can actually be a sign that there is a problem with you vehicle’s alignment; nonetheless, the tires can’t provide proper stopping power in this condition. Cracking and bulges indicate the tire could burst at any moment, making it vital to get new tires.

Finally, check the tread depth. This is the most common way to determine you need new tires. Your tread should have at least 2/32” of tread—any less can be illegal in certain areas. If you don’t have a tread-depth indicator, use a penny. Flip it upside down in the tread—if anything above President Lincoln’s head is visible, you need new tires.

It shares many of its attributes with the entire Malibu lineup, which was redesigned for 2016 and features a longer wheelbase for greater comfort. Hybrid details

The 2016 Malibu Hybrid is driven by a new, direct-injected 1.8L engine mated to a two-motor drive unit. The drive unit is based on the one used in the 2016 Chevrolet Volt and provides additional power to assist the engine during acceleration, for 182 horsepower (136 kW) of total system power.

The engine also features Chevrolet’s first application of Exhaust Gas Heat Recovery, or EGHR, technology, which uses exhaust heat to warm the engine and cabin. EGHR improves engine warm-up and helps offer consistent fuel economy performance in cold weather. Additional fuel economy benefits come from Exhaust Gas Recirculation, or EGR.

An 80-cell, 1.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack provides electric power to the hybrid system. It can power the Malibu Hybrid up to 53 miles per hour (85 km/h) on electricity alone. The gasoline-powered engine automatically comes on at higher speeds and high loads to provide additional power.

In addition to the drive unit, the Malibu Hybrid also shares the 2016 Volt’s blended regenerative braking system, which provides maximum kinetic energy recovery during braking to be stored in the battery system to help maintain charge.
