MyLink Keeps Red Wing, MN Area Silverado Drivers Calm, Cool and Connected

Red Wing, MN– The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado’s next-generation MyLink gives Red Wing, MN area customers the best of both worlds when it comes to infotainment. MyLink provides easy, intuitive operation of basic functions, yet it is also highly customizable and capable of linking up to 10 devices such as smartphones, SD cards and MP3 players, giving customers more ways to stay connected.

Silverado’s MyLink is one of the first to use of natural language voice recognition technology, which enables customers to safely place calls, enter destinations, browse media, play music and control other functions simply by telling the vehicle what to do. There are no key phrases to remember and no need to look at a screen. MyLink also can be operated via a touch screen, with large, clearly labeled knobs, or through integrated steering wheel controls.

The system can store up to 60 favorites including radio stations (AM/FM/XM), contacts, destinations, music and other media – a convenient feature for those who travel to the same destination regularly and want to save locations.

The graphic treatment of the MyLink screen and the Driver Information Center in the instrument cluster can be customized to one of four distinct personalities, depending on who’s behind the wheel and how the Silverado is being used – Main Street (default setting), Contemporary, Edge and Velocity.

One of the most noticeable additions to the new Silverado is the available high-resolution, full-color touch-screen display radio that is seamlessly integrated into the top of the central instrument panel. This vibrant LCD screen is standard on LTZ and available on LT, and it displays a home page resembling a smartphone screen or tablet, with just a few, large buttons and easily recognizable icons to execute commands.

Functionality is highly intuitive and includes the driver’s five most frequently used apps located along the top of the screen. At the bottom of the screen, users can select music, points of interest, addresses, maps for weather or directions, phone numbers or system commands.

Versatile – just like the Silverado
The Silverado’s MyLink system can be as simple or as capable as customers want it to be. It functions as an extension of the owner’s Android, BlackBerry or iPhone. It also supports phones with the Symbian operating system from Nokia and phones with the Windows Mobile operating system from Microsoft.

Once users connect and properly stow their devices, they can access Audio, Phone and Settings to connect their customized music libraries, contacts, videos and photos with the radio using their smartphones, and the vehicle’s Bluetooth or USB.

Designed with customers in mind
Customer clinic data, extensive Human Machine Interface (HMI) input and feedback from prominent customer satisfaction survey companies was used to determine screen colors, font sizes, placement of the buttons and number of items per screen. The result is a system that is both safe and easy to use.

MyLink designers developed four specific graphic appearances designed to appeal to the distinctive personalities of Chevrolet customer groups. They include:

• Main Street – An all-around, crowd pleasing design using primary colors; a typical customer may drive a truck and use it as a high-tech mobile office. This is the system’s default setting.
• Contemporary – Clean, simple interface that’s not overly colorful or busy, geared to busy moms and families.
• Edge – Youth-oriented, dynamic feel with vibrant colors and pop culture-inspired icons.
• Velocity – Sleek, with carbon fiber background appearance and glowing neon, aimed at driving enthusiasts.

Customers simply use the Settings menu to personalize their Silverado.

Additionally, GM has hired connected customer specialists throughout the country to help Red Wing Chevrolet train customers on how to get the most out of their infotainment systems.

A trusted traveling companion: OnStar
OnStar accessibility expands in the 2014 Silverado. Besides the venerable Blue button, customers can access OnStar via the screen display.

The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado is equipped with six months of OnStar’s premium Directions and Connections service (OnStar is optional on the 1WT model). OnStar brings added safety, security and connectivity to these vehicles, including services such as Automatic Crash Response, Stolen Vehicle Assistance, Vehicle Diagnostics and Roadside Assistance.

The Enclave’s lines wrap around to a conservatively styled rear.

It is evident that Buick has spent countless hours perfecting the interior, and the outcome is an experience that makes you appreciate quality and craftsmanship. The richly appointed cabin uses wood trim, fabrics and leathers that are all rich in color. The premium materials move into the second and third rows, where seating configurations can be changed to accommodate either seven or eight passengers comfortably. The interior is completed with a large cargo area behind the third row that can be expanded with the easy-to-fold second and third row seats.

When you get behind the wheel of the Enclave, you feel as though you have command of the road. Where Buick excels is the quietness of the cabin, even at highway speeds. When driving at highway speeds on Highway 61 through Red Wing, the road noise and unevenness of the pavement goes unnoticed with the use of Buick’s Quiet Tuning and the comfort focused suspension. Peace of mind comes from the available All Wheel Drive system and extensive list of safety features. The most lasting impression the Enclave leaves, though, is its versatility on the roads. The Enclave is a large crossover, though you would never know it from the way it drives. It easily maneuvers the parking lots and narrow streets of a city, yet never feels dwarfed when driving along larger vehicles.

The Enclave is undoubtedly a luxury vehicle, and it does not disappoint with convenience and technology features. The day of the drive, it was 80°F and humid, and I was able to test the available remote start system and cooled seats. While driving and listening to my music via the Bluetooth streaming audio, I was also able to connect with an OnStar representative. Passengers will enjoy a host of entertainment options, and one standout feature is the dual USB charging ports for the backseat passengers. Keeping the tablets and mobile phones charged will never again be a worry on the longer road trips taken in the Enclave. The Enclave has added convenience with the standard power operated liftgate.

The Enclave occupies a unique position in the market, with competition in the luxury and premium segment. Acura’s MDX and Lexus’ RX crossovers have long been the benchmark of the luxury crossover segment, but no longer. Buick has successfully produced a superior vehicle that bests the luxury and performance features of the MDX and the versatility of the smaller RX. The Enclave is a vehicle that can be loaded up with a family and their cargo for a weekend trip to the cabin or a trip to the grocery store, all while maintaining the luxury that Buick has promised. What is so great about the Enclave is that it works seamlessly for people in so many different stages of life.
